Cosy Countryside Rooms
We have four recently redecorated en-suite double bedrooms situated to the back of The Layer Fox; each room has a walk-in wet room and underfloor heating. All rooms have smart TV’s so guests can watch Netflix, iPlayer and Amazon Video by signing into their account. We have tea and coffee-making facilities in the rooms as well as mini-fridges.

Family £105 (based on 1 double bed & 1 child’s single bed, £15 for an extra child’s bed. £10 for a Cot)

Layer de la Haye is a rural village of around 2,000 people which dates back at least to Saxon times. The attractive 14th century church is worth a visit. The village is next to the renowned Abberton reservoir, one of the top inland bird-watching sites in Britain. It is also less than five miles from the sea and from the historic Roman town of Colchester with its ancient castle.
Other tourist attractions nearby include Layer Marney Tower, the tallest Tudor gatehouse in England. We are only a short drive from Colchester town Station and the connecting routes to London; but still have the charm and peace and quiet of being in the country with some fantastic walks and even better pubs! Visit Colchester Zoo to explore a variety of animals and enjoy a great day out for all ages.
Twitcher friendly; ideally placed for the nearby Abberton Reservoir bird sanctuary, one of the most important sites in Britain for wildfowl with an informative visitor centre.
Bicycle friendly; The Layer Fox is just off National Cycle Network Route 1 (which runs from Dover to the Shetlands) and at the junction of smaller touring routes. There are secure bicycle racks.
